When staying with friends in Colorado Springs, I noticed what appeared to be a railroad grade to the north of their house. As it happens, it was the line from downtown Colorado Springs to Limon.
With gouache in hand, I went on the grade and looking west toward Pike's Peak, I painted a small study. Three years later, I did the painting of the "boxy" Rocket headed toward Limon.
